Farming economics supported by geospatial analysis
Abstract:
By developing an advanced farm management tool, the proposed project addresses the pressing issue of farming economics. The proposed tool is aimed primarily at agricultural advisors and builds on the existing expert system used by them in their daily work. The proposed project is thus aimed at developing an innovative solution with global market potential, which addresses the shortcomings of the current state of the art in the following aspects:
The integration of open web data sources, which will significantly reduce the requirements for user administration of data and thus contribute to a higher level of systematicity in work.
Visual modelling of the cropping plan, which will allow the characteristic parameters of the cultivated areas to be derived automatically from open data sources.
Extension of the existing expert system with artificial intelligence optimisation techniques to allow automatic recombination of possible production structures to help agricultural advisers; and
Report export and integration interfaces to automatically link the service with other precision farming platforms and third party systems (banks, insurance companies) to exploit the economics of farming.
As such, the proposed product is a tool that will enable agricultural advisors to increase their efficiency and stimulate the development of new market, social and ecological innovations.
UM FERI (GeMMA) is participating in the project as an external contractor.
