Environmentally, economically, and socially responsible livestock farming
Abstract:
The Knowledge Consortium “Environmentally, Economically, and Socially Responsible Livestock Farming” represents a groundbreaking partnership in Slovenian agriculture, bringing together scientific research and educational institutions, agricultural holdings, advisory services, technology companies, and non-governmental organizations in a joint effort to achieve a sustainable transition in livestock farming. The main objective is to establish a highly collaborative AKIS (Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System) environment that ensures the development, testing, and digitization of new technological solutions and the smooth transfer of innovations into practice on Slovenian farms.
Key objectives for the period up to 2029
Over the next four years, the consortium will focus its activities on:
• Developing and introducing innovative solutions for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapting to climate change.
• Promote the digitization and automation of breeding processes – using smart sensors, robotics, and databases.
• Enhance animal welfare, preserve genetic resources, and reduce the use of antimicrobial drugs.
• Upgrade the experimental and demonstration infrastructure and establish a center for testing and showcasing the best technological solutions.
• Accelerate the dissemination of knowledge, organize training courses, seminars, and presentations for breeders, advisors, students, and the general public.
