GeoSlovenia – Plan for establishment of GeoSlovenia community operation
Abstract:
A strategic and technical project commissioned by the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia (GURS) to modernize the national geospatial infrastructure (IPI) into a coordinated, multi-stakeholder ecosystem. Grounded in the UN-GGIM’s Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF) and aligned with European policies such as the Data Governance Act and INSPIRE, the initiative defines the organizational, technical, and legal foundations for a unified “Geo Slovenia” community. Between September and December 2025, the project will deliver a posited upgrade to the national spatial strategy, a technical blueprint for fifteen core infrastructure components (including GeoAI and interoperable services), and a formal Community Code to govern partner cooperation. The final output serves as a high-level roadmap for the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, ensuring that spatial data becomes a horizontal pillar for the country’s digital transformation and green transition starting in 2026.
