BI-CZ/05-06-005: Bilateral cooperation in computational geometry research for visualization

Algorithms of applied computational geometry (triangulation, surface reconstruction, data compression, etc.) remain the common research area with dr. Ivana Kolingerova’s working team from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. The Main goals of the project are presenting our current work, finding new common solutions to geometric problems and preparation of common proposals for international projects.

In this bilateral project, our scientific colaboration with the research group from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, in the development of algorithms for applied computational geometry successfully continued. In 2006, researchers from both groups spent 18 days visiting their partner universities in Slovenia or the Czech Republic. A common paper in a recognized internation scientific journal Computers & Geosciences has been published as the project’s outcome. In addition, the exchange of ideas has encouraged, refined and accelerated several independent publications of researchers from one or other groups. Among the problems that were discussed and collectively solved, let us mention new methods, improvements and applications of 2D and 3D Delaunay triangulation, triangular mesh compression with triangle strips, surface reconstruction from a point cloud, new algorithms and applications of geometric data sorting, 3D morphing and multimorphing.
